The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species is the gold standard for understanding the status of species. The IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria are intended to be an easily and widely understood system for classifying species at high risk of global extinction. Each species is classified into one of nine categories: Not Evaluated, Data Deficient, Least Concern, Near Threatened, Vulnerable, Endangered, Critically Endangered, Extinct in the Wild and Extinct. Threatened species (those in the Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered categories) are further identified as to the reasons why they are considered threatened following one or more of five quantitative evaluation criteria. The process and methods used to formulate a Red List evaluation are portrayed on various tabs on the Red List Webpage:

The Red List status of any species can also be searched for on this page.

The Lagomorph Specialist Group completed a re-assessment of the Red List status of all Lagomorph species from 2016-2018. Nearly all lagomorph species had been uploaded onto the IUCN Red List web site by 1 November 2019, with the remainder scheduled to be uploaded later in the year. Below are the new assessments of all species that have been uploaded, as well as the new assessment categories (indicated by an *) for species to be uploaded later this year.
